State Wide Realty Tip: How to Save on Cooling Costs.

State Wide Realty Tip: How to Save on Cooling Costs.

Here are a few ways to beat the heat…

Tip #1: Keeping shades pulled down during the heat of the day can help keep the sun from raising the temperature in the home. Also, using solar screens for your windows or radiant paint barrier for your attic are also effective in blocking the sun’s UV rays.

Tip #2: Adjust the temperature of the thermostat for times when no one is home and at night when it is cooler. This is easier to do now with “smart” thermostats where you can control your settings on your phone or computer.

Tip #3: Make sure that you maintain your cooling unit whether it is a heat pump or window unit. These units usually have filters that need to be cleaned or replaced. Check your owner’s manual for suggested maintenance of your unit. Also, make sure that have any duct work inspected regularly to make sure there are no leaks or clogs.

Tip #4: Whenever possible use fans to help circulate the cool air and keep the temperature down.

Tip #5: Cut back on how much you use the stove: Your oven puts off a lot of extra heat in the home so if you can choose quicker cooking meals or use the stove top or even an outdoor grill it will save you in the long run.

Tip #6: Make sure that doors and windows are properly sealed so your money is not literally going out the window.

These tips will hopefully help your cooling costs as the heat rises!
